October 18 - Ontario’s leading chicken-industry organizations have gained federal funding to run a three-year program to develop improved traceability.
The Ontario Broiler Chicken Industry Traceability and Process Optimization Pilot Project is a joint venture of the Chicken Farmers of Ontario marketing board, the Association of Ontario Chicken Processors and the Poultry Services Association.
They are each contributing funding. The government support comes from federal-provincial Traceability Foundations Initiative.
The pilot project will dove-tail with the traceability internet-based system established by the Ontario Broiler Hatching Egg and Chick Commission.
The system will be tested during quota period A-115 which begins at the end of December and runs to Feb. 23.
